Victor Lance Vescovo is an American private equity investor, retired naval officer, sub-orbital spaceflight participant, and undersea explorer. His latest project — a world altitude record for a piston-engine aircraft. The goal is to reach an altitude of over 60,000 feet, which would break the record set in 1938 by Italian pilot Mario Pezzi. To achieve this, RDD Enterprises Limited is currently modifying a Grob G520 Egrett — a high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft from the German manufacturer — with a RED A03 from the 200 series. The RED A03 201 — already equipped with four turbochargers — is being equipped with an additional turbocharger to make flight in the thin air of the stratosphere possible at all. RED Aircraft has developed a special gearbox for this record attempt, the propeller is developed by German manufacturer Helix.
